FellowOpus Conical Burr Grinder.

The verdict in one line: Fellow names all four of our brew methods directly on the Opus's spec sheet, but the 110g hopper and catch bin undersize our cold brew guide's full one liter batch, and the timer doses by seconds, not the grams every guide on this site measures by.

Plain speech

Buy it, or don't.

For you if

  • You brew with our espresso, pour-over, French press, or cold brew guide and want one grinder that names all four methods directly on its own spec sheet.
  • You already weigh your dose on a separate scale: the Opus's low grind retention and single-dosing design suit weighing before or after the grind, not trusting the timer to hit a gram figure.
  • Your cold brew batches run under 110g of coffee per grind cycle, for example a half liter batch at our guide's 1:8 ratio, which clears the hopper and catch bin in one load.

Not for you if

  • You want to grind a full one liter cold brew batch, 125g on our guide's 1:8 ratio, in a single load: that is over the Opus's listed 110g hopper and catch bin capacity.
  • You want the grinder itself to dose by weight: the auto-stop runs 30, 60, 90 second and 2 minute timed cycles, not grams, so a scale still sits between this grinder and every guide on this site.
  • You want a dedicated espresso-only micro range: the Opus covers fine espresso through coarse cold brew on one 41+ setting dial rather than a separate espresso-tuned range.

FAQ.

Fellow Opus against our numbers

Fellow’s Opus is a single conical-burr grinder built to cover fine espresso through coarse cold brew on one dial. Fellow’s own gear guide for the product, standing in as the manufacturer source after the dedicated Opus product page returned 404 at fetch time this run, states 41+ adjustable settings across an outer coarse ring and a blue inner micro-adjustment ring. Captain’s Coffee’s listing names all four methods our guides cover directly: espresso, pour-over, French press and cold brew each appear on its supported brew methods list.

Capacity and dosing are where the numbers get specific. Whole Latte Love lists both the bean hopper and the grounds catch bin at 110g. Our cold brew guide’s own math runs 125g of coffee per litre of water at a 1:8 ratio, more than either compartment holds in a single load. And the Opus’s auto-stop is a clock, not a scale: Fellow’s own gear guide lists grind cycles timed at 30, 60, 90 seconds and 2 minutes. Every dose across our four guides, from espresso’s 18 to 19g to cold brew’s 125g per litre, is defined in grams, so a separate scale still sits between this grinder and any recipe on this site.

One published number is worth flagging rather than quietly picking a side on. Captain’s Coffee and the Amazon listing’s title both state a 40mm burr, while Whole Latte Love’s listing states 41mm. This dossier uses the 40mm figure, backed by two of the three sources fetched this run, and notes the disagreement here instead of blending the two numbers.

FAQ

Does the Opus grind fine enough for espresso?

Yes. Whole Latte Love’s spec listing states the grind range runs from “cold brew coarse to espresso fine (under 200 microns),” and espresso is named directly among the Opus’s supported brew methods on Captain’s Coffee’s listing.

How much coffee can I load into the hopper at once?

110g, per Whole Latte Love’s listing, and the grounds catch bin is rated at the same 110g. Our cold brew guide’s full one liter batch calls for 125g of coffee, over that figure, so a full-size batch needs either a second grinding cycle or a smaller batch scaled down from the guide’s own math.

Does the Opus dose by weight?

No. Fellow’s own gear guide lists the auto-stop as timed cycles, 30, 60, 90 seconds and 2 minutes, not a weight-based cutoff. Every guide on this site, from espresso to cold brew, measures dose in grams, so pairing the Opus with a separate scale is not an optional extra, it is the same baseline every grinder on this shelf needs.

What’s in the box?

Per Fellow’s own gear guide: a safety manual, a Get to Know You guide, the grinder unit, the load bin lid, a catch cup, and a catch cup insert for portafilter dosing.

Why do the burr size figures disagree between listings?

Captain’s Coffee’s listing and the Amazon listing’s title both state a 40mm burr; Whole Latte Love’s listing states 41mm. Fellow’s own gear guide page fetched this run does not state a burr diameter at all. This dossier uses 40mm, the figure backed by two of the three sources checked this run, and states the discrepancy plainly rather than picking silently.
