WacacoPicopresso.
The verdict in one line: Wacaco's spec sheet lists a hand-pumped 18 bar peak, a 52mm naked portafilter basket that holds 18 g and a tamper in the box, which meets three of our espresso guide's requirements, but it states no tamper diameter, ships without a grinder or scale, calls for an ultra-fine grind and states no brew temperature to check against our guide's window.

For you if
- You want a hand-pumped device for travel or camping that clears our espresso guide's 9 bar requirement. Wacaco lists an 18 bar max. pressure and no battery or outlet is needed.
- You dose 18 g, our guide's lower figure. Wacaco lists an 18 g ground capacity in a 52mm basket.
- You want to watch the shot run. Wacaco lists a naked portafilter, the style our guide's gear list asks for.
- You already own a burr grinder that goes ultra-fine and a 0.1 g scale, since neither is in the box.
Not for you if
- You pull 19 g shots, as in the Square Mile recipe in our guide. Wacaco's capacity is 18 g.
- You want one box that holds everything our guide's gear list names. Wacaco's package includes list has no grinder and no scale.
- You need a heated or temperature-controlled brew. Wacaco states the Picopresso does not heat water and gives no brew temperature figure.
- You want to grind at our guide's fine, caster sugar setting. Wacaco recommends ultra-fine.

Questions, answered plainly
FAQ.
Wacaco builds the Picopresso around a hand pump, and on pressure it clears our espresso guide’s 9 bar requirement. Wacaco’s product page lists a max. pressure of 18 bar and describes reaching a pressure of 9-12 bars during extraction. The page states that holding 18 bar takes a press force equal to 13 kg, so it advises two hands. No battery or outlet is involved.
The basket lines up with our dose. Wacaco lists an 18 g ground capacity in a 52mm stainless steel basket under a naked portafilter, which matches the 18 g Counter Culture recipe in our guide. It stops short of the 19 g Square Mile recipe. The Bootlegger Coffee listing repeats the 18 g and 18 bar figures.
The gaps are in the rest of the kit. Wacaco recommends an ultra-fine grind, finer than our guide’s fine, close to caster sugar setting. The page states the Picopresso does not heat water and that you fill the chamber with boiling water, so there is no brew temperature figure to hold against our 93C dial. The package includes list has a tamper but no grinder and no scale.
FAQ
Does the Picopresso reach espresso pressure?
Yes on paper. Wacaco’s product page lists a max. pressure of 18 bar, above the 9 bar our espresso guide calls for. The same page describes reaching a pressure of 9-12 bars during extraction.
Can it hold our guide’s 18 to 19 g dose?
Partly. Wacaco lists an 18 g ground capacity, which covers the 18 g end of our guide’s range. A 19 g dose is above the stated capacity.
What is in the box?
Wacaco’s package includes list names the Picopresso, double filter basket, tamper, scoop, brush, distribution tool, funnel, protective case, multi-language instruction book, warranty card and one Wacaco sticker. It lists no grinder and no scale.

No. Wacaco’s product page states the Picopresso does not heat water and that you fill the chamber with boiling water. Its water capacity is listed as 80 ml.
How is it cleaned?
Wacaco’s FAQ says it is not dishwasher safe. It advises rinsing the coffee basket and the shower head with running warm water, wiping with a humid cloth, and letting all parts dry separately.
